The history of the EIS is at first the history of a little idea of a few specialists in a small but very important field of medicine application and medical science. And this first idea has now grown up, after a great deal of effort from this group of experts in the last years, to an international society with members from all over europe.

These group of experts met the first time in August 1998 in Amsterdam to discuss the way to realize their idea. This was in general to create an association to introduce and promote isokinetics in the medical field of application. Only three months later, on november 20th 1998, in Essen (Germany), the foundation of the EIS became a fact. The European Isokinetic Society was born.

Over time, the society grew and extended its fields and interests. During following years, not only promoting the idea of muscle rehabilitation and the use of the isokinetic method was of interest. Many Experts out of different professions in the fields of sports as well as musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and cardiocirculatory training, therapy and prevention joined the EIS.

Moreover, the inclusion of further equipment philosophies and technical progress in quality control made it necessary to open the society to different disciplines. So finally, after an almost 5 years period the society decided to change the name. In July 2002, EIS was renamed to European Interdisciplinary Society for clinical and sports applications.
